The Vegetarian Festival

Which takes place in late September, is the most famous and spectacular of these. However, there are events throughout the year. Songkran, in April, is the Thai new year but is also an excuse for a huge water fight. While Loi Krathong, in November is a more subdued but magical festival.
There are processions through the streets and tests of devotion where supplicants perform acts of self-mortification including piercing of the cheeks and tongues with knives and various objects. The more impressive events include ascetic devotees walking on burning coals and climbing ladders with knife-edged rungs. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

Por Tor Festival

This Chinese ancestor worship festival takes place in the seventh Chinese lunar month, which is when the Chinese believe that the spirits of the dead are released from the underworld. The Chinese communities in Phuket make food offerings to appease the hungry spirits and to pay their respects. Turtle-shaped cakes are a popular offering as turtles represent longevity. The worshippers believe that these turtle cakes will help prolong their own life. Events take place around Phuket's Chinese shrines at different times over a 15-day period. Like most other festivals Chinese Phuket, there is a lot of food, as well as stage performances.
Phuket Fireworks Festival
This event takes place in mid-August at Saphan Hin on the edge of Phuket City. The scale of the display means that the spectacle can also be enjoyed from other locations, such as Rang Hill, or anywhere along Phuket Bay.

Loi Krathong

It takes place on the night of the full moon in November and is the most magical of all Thai festivals. Small lotus-shaped boats woven from banana leaves, called krathongs, are floated on water. These vessels contain small flowers, candles, incense and offerings to thank Mother Water for providing water for them to use. Thai people also believe that if they place a strand of hair or nail clipping in the krathong their troubles will be carried away with it.

The Phuket Gay Festival is one of Phuket's largest annual events. Taking place in Patong, the festival runs over four days with many parties, a volleyball tournament and a street parade that is the highlight of the festival.

Get well Tuk !!

Chemo is done, they gave only half as much oft the usual chemo, due to Max's high Liver count, his red blood is ok but his white blood is very low, Tuk said she even has to be careful when touching him because he will easily get bruises due to the low white blood, now the doctors were checking his liver size by feel and by using Ultrasound, Biopsy, the feeling of Max's abdomen showed a slightly enlarged liver but on the Ultrasound the liver seamed still bigger, I think it a good sign that it can't be felt big but I don't know about the other results because get my information from Tuk, as we know, she's very stressed and might mix up things or did not understand the doctor well due to communication problem(English)yesterday Tuk fell down, she wasn't feeling well for a few day's already, she was so exhausted, taking care of Max all by herself isn't easy and then the bad news about their lil daughter Michal, Tuk sis from Thailand(where Mishal stay now)informed them that Mishal wasn't feeling to good and that she stay in hospital with high fever,the doctors in Thailand checked everything but couldn't find the reason for her condition,the just gave her injections over three day and then sent her back home,now she's back in hospital, Tuk worried like crazy, never eat never slept and that's the reason for her medical condition, now all she wants is go to Thailand and see her daughter but financial conditions don't let that be, now the have to pay for the hospital bill over there in Thailand, that's all not easy, some people have all the luck and others never stop suffering ...

Liver Biopsy
Often times a liver biopsy will be ordered because it provides reliable information for a cancer diagnosis. A biopsy involves the collection of a small tissue sample that is then examined under a microscope. Normal cells have a distinct and orderly appearance and are different than cancer cells which are chaotic and malformed. By examining the cells under a microscope, the pathologist can determine the presence of diseased cells and the extent of their invasion.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses sound waves, not x-rays, to generate images. A jelly-like substance is applied to the skin overlying your liver. Then a probe, called a transducer, is passed over the skin. The transducer sends out sound waves that pass through the body and are echoed back. The transducer receives the echoes and transmits them to a computer console which in turn interprets the echo data as internal organs and tissues.
Because ultrasound is simple, inexpensive and noninvasive, it is often one of the first tests ordered during the staging process. Unfortunately, test results are highly dependent upon the sonographer (sonographertechnician who specializes in the operation of ultrasound equipment), the quality of the scanner, and the overall build of the patient. As a result, ultrasound may not detect all tumors in all cases.
Ultrasound may be performed in the physician's office or on an outpatient basis in a clinic. Most ultrasound tests take only a few minutes and results are obtained immediately. In patients with liver tumors, ultrasound is used to locate and measure the size of a tumor and to determine if it is solid or cystic.
In addition, ultrasound is an important modality that is used at the time of surgery and is called intraoperative ultrasound. This examination should be performed on all patients who undergo a surgical procedure on the liver. It will identify all of the tumors within the liver and clarify the relationship to blood vessels in the liver. The probe is placed directly on the liver at the time of surgery. This test provides critical information that will influence the treatment strategy.

Don't you miss me, I miss you all ...

MMS ed from Tuk to me, wow so cute all those pics, not like the old Max at all, ha ha, no this Max show much more emotions and he has a new attitude which drives his mom nut's but it also shows that he feels more stronger now, he talks much more, can even ask his mom to put down the phone, last time he said,bye bye talk, that's but naughty, he is always so concerned about me and ask if I still got pain "ti pain" and if I answer with "no auntie is fine now" then he'll say "ti come" ,I want to see him so much but the won't let anyone in the room, I have problems sitting or standing for long periods, still have to wait for the new liver blood count, he had one test between and it showed a much better result, I think it was about 400, that's an improvement from the last number which was 2004, if this test is OK then they will go on with the chemo treatment, all the best to my dear Max, love you ...

Chemo started just to be stopped again ...

Today Max got his first chemo treatment and Tuk was very excited that finaly the results were good enough to start the therapy, the good news however didn't last for very long, she just called me up at 6pm, telling me that Max liver blood count came out not good, his count is about 2004 which is very high, and they have to stop the chemo therapy, the doctor asked Tuk if she was giving any kind of traditional herbs or medication to Max and Tuk was like wth ... are the trying to put the blame for his high blood count on me, she never give him any traditional herbs or medication, the funny thing is that Max seams to be ok, I talk to him every day on the phone and Tuk said it too that he seams ok, of cause Tuk is very worried and me too

Max is back to the KK hospital

Since 23 of June, Max was back at KK hospital, awaiting his Chemo Therapy, he will receive it by tomorrow if everything is clear, hope he get it fast, no need to waste precious time, I 'm so sad because he keeps asking for me but I'm unable to visit him at this moment,just had my spine operation done and very weak on my legs still, as soon as I'm able to stand longer I will sure visit him"did you hear me Max,I will sure come and visit you soon" stay strong my boy, yesterday when Tuk called my on my phone, I hear ed him laughing at the background, so cute,I asked Tuk what he was doing and she told me that he was jumping on the bed, pretending to be a monkey and laughing all by himself ...

Max loves the PSP, he was very proud to let me see how he pressed the buttons ...It was the first time that Max was the visitor and Leila(me)the patient in the hospital, he looked like he wanted to ask me"what are you doing in the bed", he looked so cute, he came very near to me looked at me with his big eyes and gave me the super sweet smile, he repeated it a few times, that was so cute, he kept on saying "ti pain"and pointed to my back ...

how beautiful they brought me this nice basket with all those nice smelling roses, and they brought Lot's of food for me,thank you so much to Max,Tuk and Matthew, see you soon ...

Max is out of KK

Yes you read it right, Max is out of KK since Monday night, well just for a while, until he is totaly free from any cough, flu or fever, he has to be very fit for the next chemo because the chemo this time will be even stronger than all the others that he received before, unlucky for Tuk is that she herself is not feeling well and she got backpain, just like me hmmm, thats funny, poor thing, I gave her some of my painkiller,hope they help her, as for me I have to be operated on my spine this saturday, got slip disc and it's serious, maybe you wondered because I seldom updated, yes that's one of the reasons I didn't, I was and still am in great pain, so sorry to all of you for not updating and it might be a nother two weeks before I will update again ...

Out of danger

Doctor said Max is out of danger, his condition is stable again, it's not worsening, that's once again great news, as soon as he is free from any virus and infections he will get chemo treatment, if the test is negative on Monday then Max might leave the hospital for about 3 days, don't know why, guess the doctor knows best what they are doing ...

Respiratory Synctial

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of respiratory illness in young children. RSV causes infection of the lungs and breathing passages. In adults, it may only produce symptoms of a common cold, such as a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, mild headache, cough, fever, and a general feeling of being ill. But RSV infections can lead to other more serious illnesses in coughs or sneezes. The virus can also live on surfaces such as counter tops or doorknobs, and on premature babies and kids with diseases that affect the lungs, heart, or immune system.
RSV is highly contagious, and can be spread through droplets containing the virus when a person hands and clothing. RSV can be easily spread when a person touches an object or surface contaminated with the virus. The infection can spread rapidly through schools and child-care centers. Infants often get it when older kids carry the virus home from school and pass it to them. Almost all kids are infected with RSV at least once by the time they are 2 years old.
RSV infections often occur in epidemics that last from late fall through early spring. Respiratory illness caused by RSV — such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia — usually lasts about a week, but some cases may last several weeks. Doctors typically diagnose RSV by taking a medical history and doing a physical exam. Generally, in healthy kids, it's not necessary to distinguish RSV from a common cold. But in cases where a child has other health conditions, a doctor might want to make a specific diagnosis. RSV is typically identified in nasal secretions, which can be collected either with a cotton swab or by suction through a bulb syringe.
Preventing RSV
Because RSV can be easily spread by touching people or surfaces that are infected, frequent hand washing can go a long way toward preventing the virus from spreading around a household. It's best to wash your hands after having any contact with someone who has any cold symptoms. And keep your school-age child with a cold away from younger siblings — particularly infants — until the symptoms pass.
To prevent serious RSV-related respiratory disease, at-risk kids can be given a monthly injection of a medication consisting of RSV antibodies during peak RSV season (roughly November to April). Because its protection is short-lived, it has to be given in subsequent years until the child is no longer at high risk for severe RSV infection. Ask the doctor if your child is considered high risk.
Treating RSV
Fortunately, most cases of RSV are mild and require no specific treatment from doctors. Antibiotics aren't used because RSV is a virus and antibiotics are only effective against bacteria. Medication may sometimes be given to help open airways.
In an infant, however, an RSV infection can be more serious and may require hospitalization so that the baby can be watched closely, receive fluids, and, if necessary, be treated for breathing problems.
At home, make a child with an RSV infection as comfortable as possible, allow time for recovery, and provide plenty of fluids. The last part can be tricky, however, because babies may not feel like drinking. In that case, offer fluids in small amounts at more frequent intervals than usual.
To help your child breathe easier, use a cool-mist vaporizer during the winter months to keep the air moist — winter air can dry out airways and make the mucus stickier. Avoid hot-water and steam humidifiers, which can be hazardous and can cause scalding. If you use a cool-mist humidifier, clean it daily with household bleach to discourage mold.
If your child is uncomfortable and too young to blow his or her own nose, use a nasal aspirator (or bulb syringe) to remove sticky nasal fluids.
Treat fever using a non aspirin fever medicine like acetaminophen. Aspirin should NOT be used in children with viral illnesses since its use in such cases has been associated with Reye syndrome, a life-threatening illness.

What a bad news ...

Today I went to KK hospital, couldn't enter the room and Max is in isolation, he cought a Virus, wonder where he got that from, it may be spreadable and might even be dangerous to some people, don't ask me what virus, I do not know, I have no clue whats going on, the doctor seams very unfriendly and said that the mother(Tuk)is not supposed to exit the room, Tuk is slowly getting mad, oh dear, poor Max, he cried when I could not enter his room,kept on calling ti come ti come, ti = auntie, his bone marrow biopsy was posetive, that's not good, means he still got LCH, so sad, they(the doctors) urge them(Max's parents) to make bone marrow transplant ...

He misses the freedom

Usually Max should have gotten his chemo treatment yesterday but it had to be postponed, he vomited and had fever, guess the allergic reaction to the hospital is worsening, if he gets over it, then the chemo treatment will start on this Wednesday(tomorrow), come on Max, do it faster so you can walk on the road again soon, Well!! Tuk informed me so late about that, guess she was busy, ha ha, I could have visit him at KK yesterday and would have gotten my hugs and kisses, I was so free, like a bird, what to do, don't know if I got the time today, anyway instead I went out shopping with Liza, all kind of nonsense things and she got the shirt she wanted and was happy once again LOL ...

Went to KK Hospital to visit Max and his mom, Oh he looked great and he was such a happy and funny fellow today, no sign of unwell's at all but he is not that well as he looks, he had fun playing with the laser gun witch I brought for him, and look who is accompanying Max at KK, YES it's monkey ha ha, what's for lunch, well Max had Pizza direct delivered by his dad, and the hospital staff adored him as usual, me too, just love this little man ...

Fungus, fever, diarrhea + infection

3 weeks outside he was apearing so strong and healthy but just a day at the hospital prooves that Max has all sorts of symptoms of a not so heathy little boy, Damn!! they found a shading on his lung, fungus and bacteria in his stool, he got diarrhea and fever too, now they wait for the blood and bone marrow test results, usely the doctor wanted to start chemo yesterday but Tuk asked to test Max stool and blood first, now they got to cure his infections first before starting with the new chemo ...

Do I really have to stay ??

Max and his mom are back to KK hospital, Max had his ex ray taken and the ex ray showed that there is still something ?? must wait for full report from Doctor first, OK, a new Chemo is available and later on Max have to undergo a Bone marrow biopsy ...

Singapore Flyer

I can't believe it, Tuk and Matthew were both so scared in the Flyer until they perspire and had their body shaking out of fear, ha ha, I don't know what was so scary about the Flying thing, it was so slow that you almost didn't feel anything at all but they both are afraid of heights, so why did they go into the Flyer, I have no clue but it was very brave indeed ...

On a Discovery Trip

First when we entered the Discovery Center it was like, Oh Dear!! Was it a good idea to bring Max here, Max was scared because the place was very dark, guess he got his parents genes, ha ha, he wanted us to bring him out again but we just continued the discovery, after a while Max was OK, phew ... lucky, he even enjoyed some of the activities over there, it wasn't a waste ...

later we went to have some food and drinks at the Discovery Center, little Max(well he is now little again)got so used to it to eat Pizza and he loves it but mom ordered spaghetti for him, WOW!! He wasn't to happy about that and showed us his attitude, he wanted to hold his food in his own hands, Tuk placed some Spaghetti on his hands, ha ha, so funny, you must have seen his reaction, he was screaming and shouting, Tuk had to control herself not to ... , LOL,I had an idea, I took a paper plate, folded it like a Pizza shape and placed some of the cheese and Spaghetti on top of it, he was happy and satisfied and we had our Peace again, he kept holing his Spaghetti in a Pizza shape in his hand and nibbled, if even some time had a bite of the plate, well he didn't complain at at all, we had back our sweet and funny little Max whom we all adore ...

Max at the Theme Park Pasir Ris

Hey , today we went to the fun fair, yes it really fun for us, don't know who enjoyed more, we or Max, lucky guess, US!! He He, Max took a ride in the airplane and wanted to go out very fast, I took a ride with him in the shoo shoo train and the first time he enjoyed but as soon as he got tired he were moody too, Tuk screamed her lungs out, we tricked her into the fun fairs, well she regretted it LOL, she was so scared, she showed us how she were sweating out of fear, ewe!! All her sweat on us, then we went into the hunted house, big mistake, never ever go with Tuk in a hunted place, you will surly regret it an suffer the pain, LOL, she kept on screaming, it wasn't that scary but I shocked by their screams, at one time Tuk got so scared and faster jumped on me, OUTCH, I knocked into a metal fence and felt like strangling her, I was like owwwwwwwwwwwwrrrrrrrrrrrr whatever that means, later on Matthew joined us and went into almost all the rides, in one of the rides he kept on mumbling Oh my God, Oh my God, in the other he kept on saying, Leila you tricked my AHHHH AHHHH!! Ha ha, I was innocent, why blame me, well at least he didn't wipe his sweat on us ... Boohoo !! ...
